TAU or another manufacturer? Why do professionals often choose TAU?

Anyone working in gate automation knows exactly this: every on-site callback costs time, money, and frustration. And of course, the customer won’t be happy either. That’s why many installers don’t experiment — they choose what has already proven reliable. TAU. Not because they received a colorful catalog, but because when you install it, it works. Not just the next day, but next month too.

TAU is an Italian manufacturer whose products are not the cheapest (which is exactly why many people hunt for them during promotions), but they don’t try to appear cheap either. These motors are built to operate reliably — again and again. Professionals who have already had bad experiences with unknown-brand motors know this well: what seems cheap at first often becomes truly expensive later. Either it doesn’t arrive on time, feels loose straight out of the box, or starts making strange noises after a week. And then you have to go back, reinstall everything, and explain to the customer that “it’s not the motor that’s faulty, it’s just the power supply, or the control unit, or the weather, or something else.”
The installer knows that’s just an excuse. And the customer knows they’ll call someone else next time.

One of TAU’s core strengths is predictability. The mechanics don’t wobble, and the housing is solid. The control unit layout is logical — you don’t have to dig through forums to figure it out. Most TAU control boards are designed so wiring mistakes are hard to make — and if they do happen, the system immediately signals them. The LEDs provide clear, meaningful indications, and the documentation is written for installers, not produced as a clumsy machine translation.

Installation is where its advantages show again: nothing is overcomplicated. Based on the gate type, you can reliably determine which motor is needed, how much rack is required, and what kind of power supply to use. If the site survey is done properly, there won’t be any surprises. Limit switch settings stay stable — they don’t drift or change on their own. With a properly installed gate, there’s no need for monthly fine-tuning.

The TAU product range is also stable. What you bought last year is still available this year — or there is a proper compatible alternative. This is especially important for industrial projects, where you can’t tell the client: “This model is no longer manufactured, let’s look for something else.”

There’s no chaos when it comes to compatibility either. Most TAU motor kits include all the essential components that with other brands often have to be purchased separately: motor, control unit, rack, power supply, receiver. These work together seamlessly, with no hidden incompatibilities. And just as importantly: they’re actually available. Not only from foreign websites, not weeks later, and not at unrealistic prices. If something needs replacing, you don’t have to spend days making phone calls.

TAU isn’t flawless. There are models that aren’t ideal for every environment. Its biggest “drawback” might be that once you get used to TAU’s stability, you’ll start missing that same reliability with other brands. But what it does, it delivers consistently. It’s not in the “hope you get lucky” category — it’s for professionals who’ve been burned once and don’t want it to happen again.

That’s why the decision is often made already at the quotation stage: “TAU or something cheaper?”
Anyone who has had to explain themselves to a client even once would rather say it upfront: “This costs a bit more, but I’m sure I won’t have to come back.”

And the customer understands this too. They don’t care about the price — they care whether the gate opens in the morning. Or closes at night. Whether it works when it’s supposed to. And ultimately: whether they have to call the installer back or not.

That’s why professionals often choose TAU. Because it simply works. And in this industry, that matters more than any slogan.
